Holy Spirit Missionaries: The congregation began its ministry in the U.S.A. in 1901 in Techny, IL, just north of Chicago. We look back with gratitude on the work of the Holy Spirit among us in these years and look forward with hope to what God continues to call us to do.

As religious missionaries committed to bringing the experience of God’s love to places where there is special need, we draw upon the faith that sustained the first Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters here in the U.S.A. Mother Leonarda Lentrup and Sisters Alexia, Clara, Foureria and Martina arrived on May 11, 1901, in what is now Techny, IL. They represented a young and rapidly growing congregation which had been founded in 1889 by St. Arnold Janssen in Steyl, Holland with the collaboration of Mother Maria Stollenwerk and Mother Josepha Stenmans.
