Well, first of all we are religious sisters, dedicated to the Lord always nurturing that great desire to make God's Love known, everywhere, all the time.
How do you do that? Going about "making disciples", as Jesus told his followers to do, needs one basic condition that is common to us all: be a disciple.And then employ your knowledge, your skills, your love, your wisdom, your courage, your ability to endure hardship, your creativity and spontaneity in the service of others.
Our gifts are called forth in the situations we meet; and we are life-long learners!
Yes, some do, some others don't.
It very much depends on your assignment, on your location, on your means. In our prayers and thoughts and concerns we do "travel" the whole globe.
We are interested in and we know about many difficulties, successes, failures, joys and sorrows, fears and suffering of our sisters around the world and with them of the people they serve.
Those of us who have never left our native country feel no less being missionaries than those who have served or are serving in other parts of the world.
I have been asked that question a million times, I think, because from my day of entering the convent I lived in a country not my own.
I must honestly say, I did not experience much homesickness except when a member of my family was sick or even died, and I could not be there to help or console.
Those are difficult times, but I always have experienced that my part of praying, writing, calling has given strength and solace, not only to me, but also to members of my family and friends who were suffering.
